Born and raised in East London, I completed my BA in Classics at the University of Cambridge and my MA in Classics at UC Santa Barbara. My undergraduate thesis set out a postcolonial reading of the representation of the Libyan desert landscape in book nine of Lucan’s Pharsalia. My work now primarily focuses on the intersection of Greek tragic reception, critical theory, and the classical tradition. I also maintain a keen interest in ecocritical readings of ancient texts. For instance, I am currently working on a paper on extractivist ideology in Heliodorus’ Aethiopica, exploring how the subplot of the conflict over the emerald mines affects the narrative structure.
