On October 21, at a ceremony hosted by the Emeriti Faculty Association at their fall dinner, Robert Gurval was presented with UCLA’s Carole E. Goldberg Award, which recognizes “extraordinary service by an emeritus/a professor to the academic enterprise after retirement.” Bob has become the UCLA expert on the history of our campus and its architecture, which he shares generously in tours for students, faculty and UCLA supporters, including for UCLA’s recent centennial (he will be soon be teaching his popular Fiat Lux seminar on the topic, in Winter 2026). He was also recognized for his tremendous popularity among UCLA Alumni/ae as a lecturer for its Travel Program. Bob was joined by fellow emeriti awardees and colleagues, including Carole Goldberg, at this event, and gave a gracious acceptance speech applauded by all.
